The simple appearance of this Jazz Loft Studio conceals the highly complex attic conversion behind it — a fully acoustically isolated performance space built within a terraced period home in north London. The client required a room capable of hosting live jazz sessions, complete with full drum kit and saxophone, without disturbing neighbours sleeping in the adjoining houses. To achieve this, the entire studio was constructed as a suspended “box‑within‑a‑box”, hung from a new steel structure using specialist rubber acoustic hangers. This physical separation from the existing building fabric allows late‑night performances to take place with virtually no transmission of sound to the surrounding homes.
We were amazed: a full jazz band playing late into the evenings, and the neighbours in the bedroom next‑door didn’t hear a thing!
