Whiteley Hill Winery

Royston, UK

Set in beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, the site is set within an internationally acclaimed breeding and horse racing business.

This project for a new winery forms an integral role in the development of the existing business and brings with it the potential for wider economic growth to the local community and beyond. It includes: production, processing, and storage facilities; hospitality functions; a service apron, car park and new access road; a wetland waste treatment solution; and landscaping.

The Entrance Bridge is defined by a break in the roof and walls of the Ageing Barn, splitting it in two volumes which are visually linked by exposed timber purlins.

The side walls of the Bridge are clad in brass (or brass coloured) panels, evoking the metal commonly used for horse tack, and which provide an interplay of subdued light reflections. The end of the bridge is defined by glass Entrance Doors to the main Reception Hall with glimpses of the Newsells Park landscape beyond.
